Wormley commits to Michigan

6'5" 245LB Chris Wormley commits to Michigan this afternoon. Wormley is arguably the top SDE in the state of Ohio. The Toledo Whitmer product has been leaning towards UofM for a while but never pulled the trigger until today. Wormley and Tom Strobel are the top two strong side DE's in Ohio and both have committed to Michigan.

In the trenches, this is the second part of my top offensive players in ohio this season.

Lets start with TE's

Blake Thomas, 6'4" 250, senior, St. Ignatius Commitment: osu

In a year where tight ends are not very strong in Ohio, Blake Thomas is the best of the bunch. He is the most athletic..he is a capable blocker but his routes and hands are his strong point. He can line up in various formations, he has size and runs well in the open field. How many TE's can pull off a bubble screen or line up in the slot?

Right Tackle

Kyle Kalis, 6'5" 305, senior, Lakewood ST. EDS, commitment: Michigan

Kalis is the most controversial story in this years recruitment. He committed to osu, then decommitted because of the scandal and landed on Brady Hokes lap in Michigan. I met Kalis last winter at a banquet and spoke to him for a few minutes. Let's get this straight. Kalis has the body of an elite NFL offensive lineman...right now, he is 17 yrs old. Kalis is not a tackle in college and I believe he will move inside to guard. He is not athletic enough for tackle but will be a stud interior lineman. He is massive, strong, moves a pile and will be a RB's best friend. Then there is the fact that he is an absolute prick on the field, watch him pound dudes into the ground even after the play is over. And he loves Michigan

RIGHT GUARD

Caleb Stacey, 6'4" 285, senior, Oak Hills, Commitment: Michigan

another one of Hokes boys. He was Michigans second commitment and is an absolute road grader. Stays low and can play anywhere on the line. Don't have his film right now but will probably play center at the next level. Could play either guard position if necessary. Check him out at scouting ohio.

CENTER

Lovell Peterson, 6'4" 285, junior, Wayne High, uncommitted

Only a junior, I have talked about him already. Started as a guard and ended up playing center and was the best I have seen by far. Peterson is strong and uses his leverage well. Notice he can get to the second level and bury LB's also. I will say this again, he is the most polished player at any position on the fied.

LEFT GUARD

Bennie Mcgowan, 6'4"300, senior, Centerville, Commitment: MSU

Are you kidding me? He is so quick off the snap and DL dissapear under him. He is brutal and absolutely pancakes whatever is in front of him. Centerville is usually a buckeye feeder but Michigan State recruited him hard and landed a stud.He is an all big ten caliber lineman in a couple years, probably the most under appreciated player in this class.

LEFT TACKLE

Kyle Dodson, 6'6" 310, senior, Cleveland Heights, Commitment: Wisconsin

Dodson is a house with legs. A prototypical LT, long and athletic with a huge wingspan. His pass protection and run blocking are equally good. Wisconsin has a long line of great college lineman and Dodson is no different. He does have academic issues, so hopefully that won't hinder him in the future.

Let me throw a couple more names at ya on the athletic side of things.

Jalin Marshall- check my blog for that highlight. http://bowmansfootballplanet.blogspot.com

Chris and Demetrious Davis, 5,9" 180, seniors, Austintown Fitch, Commitments: Both to Pitt.

I was in attendance at a combine when these twins lit it up.

Chris is a WR who I watched run a 4.42 40 and has jaw dropping moves. When you watch a kid run that fast with the intensity as if he wanted to run through a brick wall, it is impressive and you can tell alot about a kids desire.

Demitrious is just a hair slower but has the same mind boggling moves. He is so fast through the line that defenses are usually late as they watch him run by them. Notice how long the strides are on these smaller but dynamic players. He won't play QB in college both had a ton of offers going into this season. These kids are both big time athletes who, in my mind, are a steal for Pitt.

With the 2012 high school football season around the corner, here are the top offensive players at each position in Ohio

QB's
Austin Appleby, 6'5" 225lbs, senior, Canton Hoover, Commitment: Purdue
Appleby gets my attention immediately because he plays under center quite a bit. He convincingly runs the offense and scans the field well, you will notice he changes plays at the line, this is confidence and makes college coaches smile. Appleby has a live arm and his drops are strong, he plants and gets rid of the ball quick. Another skill he possesses is his ball fakes, this is neglected by QB's today but buys time and frustrates defenses. A very strong arm, he uses checkdowns and his field vision make him the best of the bunch in Ohio this year. His flaw is his kerry collins hitch in his release, but his positives outweigh his negatives tremendously.

Tyler Oconnor, 6'3" 208, senior, Lima Central Catholic, commitment: Michigan State

O'Connor has a ton of experience considering he has been the starting QB since his freshman season. His mechanics are nice, elbow is always high and ball by his ear. His arm strength is above average and the fact that he won't escape the pocket unless necessary is maturity. You see, OConnor is an exceptional athlete who can run as well, he's a combine monster with speed and over a 9'0" broad jump. Watch him make plays out of the pocket and throw on the run or stop on a dime and throw a strike.

RB's

Warren Ball, 6'2" 215, senior, Desales, commitment: osu

This kid is somehow still under the radar. Let's see... speed, agility, vision, balance, do you notice a pattern here? He is the most complete back in Ohio. He can run out of an I or a single set maybe throw an offset in there. His feet never stop and he can hit you up inside or out. This kid catches the ball as well. He takes a backseat to nobody in Ohio.

William Mahone, 6'0" 210, senior, Austintown Fitch, uncommited: offers ND, Pitt, Michigan among others

I may get crap from some people saying Brionte Dunn is better, but Mahone's first step and the way he slides through holes is impressive as hell. His vision is fantastic and he can catch out of the backfield also. His speed is questionable but he still seems to run away from the opposition. One thing that will have to be seen is the way he runs out of a pro style offense, Fitch runs a spread and he excels in that offense.

Brionte Dunn, 6'1" 225, senior, Canton Glenoak, commitment: osu but is making visits elsewhere. May be a soft verbal to osu

I don't question Dunn's ability at all. He is big and strong and racked up over 2000 yds last season in a competitive conference. His speed isn't great though and his offensive line is very good , opening huge holes. Dunn seems heavy footed at times and takes forever to get to the holes. That doesn't mean he won't be a productive back but Ball and Mahone just nudge him here.

Darion Heath, 6'0" 240, senior, Trotwood Madison, commitment: uncommitted

you have to have a fullback and Heath is the one. Trying to find an old fashion blocking back who can also pick up three or four yards is hard to do nowadays. Watch arms and legs fly around when he hits people.

WR's

Dwayne Stanford, 6'4" 190, senior, Cincinnati Taft, uncommitted but has offers from Michigan to Bama and everyone in between.

You wouldn't believe it by his film but Stanford hasn't been clocked faster than a 4.6 40. Who cares, His move off the line is great, he catches every ball with his hands and runs great routes. One cornerback can't stick him especially in the red zone. His game speed is fast enough to convince these eyes and plent y of top colleges there is no better in this area.

Corey Smith, 6'1" 180, senior, Akron Buchtel, commitment: Tennessee, rumor has it he has academic problems and may be going juco.

Smith makes the field look so big with the way he creates so much seperation between him and the DB's. Watch him split the DB's in that second play. He is about as athletic at the reciever position I have seen in Ohio in years. His speed before and after he catches the ball is impressive and one step on the defender is plenty to take one to the house.

Cameron Wilson, 6'2" 210, senior, Dublin Jerome, commitment: Iowa

Very underrated player because he plays football at a lacrosse, golf school. Cameron Wilson doesn't do anything that makes me say "WOW" he just gets it done. He runs productive routes and will go across the middle for the ball also. Wilson scores TD's and burns DB's up consistently. Here is the deal, he committed to Iowa because they like blue collar players who want to make a team better. Wilson is a possession reciever who fits right in.

These are my top skill players in the state, in order and I will have more later.

The best player in Ohio that nobody has talked about

I was evaluating some defensive tackles when I came across Chris Fairchild. Immediately I fell in love with him(not literally) and his game. None of the scouting sites recognized this kid but I couldn't help noticing how long his highlight film was. Watch him dominate the OL and get in the backfield over and over again. This kid reminds me of Roosevelt Nix who once played at Reynoldsburg and went on to become MAC defensive player of the year as a freshman last season. He was as good as any defensive tackle on film for the class of 2012. He also excels at OL as well but this kid is an impressive player. He gets down the line and is just brutal to ball carriers, watch closely, he is NO. 56.

What do neck tattoos and Indiana football have in common?

If a young professional shows up at an interview with a neck tat busting out of his shirt, this would be a bad choice. If a great high school QB chose to play footbal at Indiana, wouldn't this be the same scenario? Both are bad choices. Career Killers. Gunner Kiel, who is ranked the number one ranked high school QB in the country for 2012, did just that. With every major program in the country begging for his services, young Gunner chose to work at Wal-Mart rather than become a neurosurgeon. Who is mentoring this kid? Here is what he settled for.
1.No chance at a national title
2.No big ten title
3.No big time recievers to throw to
4.No time to throw the ball (offensive line will be bad)
5.Possible injury (with no line)

Gunner could have stayed in state and chose Notre Dame or Purdue. A great high school QB with NFL intentions may sway towards Texas, Oklahoma, maybe even Missouri, but Indiana? Bad choice young man and whoever supported this fat disaster. With high school ball just starting and him having until February to change his mind, this should be one to watch over the next seven months.

Lovell Peterson is the best center in the state.

Peterson is another class of 2013 standout. I would go as far to say he is the most polished player at any position in Ohio. Only a junior to be, he will recieve more than 20 offers by his senior season. If this isn't convincing enough, watch the state title game against Lakewood , he is flawless. He may be seen playing some left guard in this highlight but by the end of the year , he was a full time center.

Is Jalin Marshall the best athlete in Ohio?

If your wondering if there is SEC like talent in Ohio, look no further than Middletowns Jalin Marshall. These are highlights of him as a sophomore. Notice that nobody is even in his building when it comes to speed and athleticism. I would bet he is only 16 yrs old here. No matter what angle someone has on him it's not enough. At 1:28 of this highlight, watch him get the corner and stretch his legs just a little bit. He will never play QB in college but he is as nasty as I have seen at the high school level.

How do you clean up college football?

First, bring in a cleaning crew to pick up trash and sweep up all the debris.  We all know what kind of hoarding that has been going on with the game for years.  Bring in the Haz-mat suits and disinfectant spray, hopefully this will kill all the germs and smell of the past.  How many national championship teams since 2000 have not been in trouble with major recruiting violations on down the road?  Florida?  Oklahoma?  What coach wouldn't sacrifice penalties five years after the fact they have won it all?

Listen folks, College football is a disaster.  It's time for the NCAA to take drastic measures and here is why.  I believe all the problems in college football stems from recruiting.    Period! High school players  are allowed five official visits (taken care of by the university).  All of the rest of his visits are on his dime, this is where things go haywire.  This is a good way for coaches, who have not interested this player enough to get an official visit from him, violate rules "what did they offer you"?   "Look what we got".   I'm obviously paraphrasing here but you get the idea.   Next thing you know, this kid mysteriously has this school in his top 3 or 4 choices.

Here is my clever recommendation that will never happen.  NCAA appoints one person to represent each D1 school.  This rep goes along on every traveling recruiting visit in school, and at home.  This rep also happens to be at every camp and every official visit that the school accepts.  Things may go a little smoother and cleaner with this concept.  If a player will not accept a full ride, sty- pin pay, free clothing from sponsors (Nike,Adidas) and free food along with a chance to play at a top university with exceptional coaching, the hell with him.  What else can a high school kid want?   The excuse that a kids parents need to be helped out behind the scenes because of the rough life they have endured?  Played out!  These parents have gotten this far in life, why do they need the help now?

Lastly a kid with thirty offers must break it down to five, that is where they visit and that is who they choose from.  These thirty offer athletes who take five officials and fifteen non - officials probably break more violations in that time alone than they do the rest of their career.  As I look back at the successful teams over the last ten years and realize how much cheating has went on, I think to myself  how disgusting it is.  Nowadays people say "just pay em".  If you can't beat em, join em.  It's time to start beating them.  If not, just plan on every national champion from here on out giving back the trophy five years later.
